About BandNine
BandNine is an independent app for practising the IELTS Speaking test. Alex, the examiner in the app, runs Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 aloud, and the report afterwards shows an estimated band for each of the four criteria, with the words from your answers that support it. AI practice estimate. Not an official IELTS result.
How we write the guides
The guides on this site are drafted with AI writing tools from an outline we set, then checked before they go up. Every statement about the test is checked against the official IELTS material: the test format and the public Speaking band descriptors on ielts.org. Example answers and task cards are written for these guides, not copied from real tests or forecast lists, and the notes on them say which criterion they show. The English follows the house style we use in the app: British spelling and the exam's own terms.
A guide shows the date it was published and, if it has changed since, the date of the change. If you find a mistake, write to hello@bandnine.org. We correct it and update the date.
Independence
IELTS is a registered trade mark of the British Council, IDP IELTS and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. BandNine is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by these organisations. The bands in the app and on this site are estimates for practice; only the test you take at an IELTS centre gives you a band you can use.
